I have no idea what I read. The audiobook was fantastically done, but there's no way I can recommend it bc of the sheer amount of characters and POV's. I may have gotten more out of it if I had the physical book in front of me to follow along with. It was weird, which I should love but even with the beautiful writing and narration, I was so bored the entire time.

Read iiiiit.
What a voice!
This is unmistakably a debut: brash, daring, creative, fresh, intuitive. It takes all the tangents it wants, and I was there for like 80% of them. The opening is spectacular, Variables is therapeutic, the buildup doesn’t quite deliver but I still love the ending.
I’m excited for more from Tess Gunty!

Hard to pin-down - the writing was confusing to me and I didn’t feel like I was enjoying myself some of the time but I’m surprised to feel like four stars is the right reaction. Blandine the character is one of the more interesting people I’ve seen recently. I didn’t understand her but she felt real to me. Much of the writing felt unnecessary but I still wanted to push through. The type of read that makes me want to see what other people are saying about it when I’ve finished, and to me, that’s good.
