This is book 9 of the Read The World challenge and at some point I knew this would happen, that I just wouldn’t be able to get in to a book and this is that book. I started off fine, I was even enjoying the book, but later on I found it got repetitive, the two families live together and there is a day to day, month to month, year to year adventures, misadventures and just sometimes nothing. At the beginning I understood them, I felt for them and their problems, but later on I lost interest. There are also so many characters, I got mixed up at times. This book is a family saga, a genre which I normally enjoy.

Read this for eng lit so I haven't analysed it enough to hate it yet. Interesting at some points and so boring I wanted to kill myself at others. I liked how everything felt very real even the ghosts and shit. I truthfully don't think i'm smart enough to fully understand this book.

DID NOT FINISH

DNF at 34%. Ugh, I waited over a year for this book at the library (last year’s open book challenge, “book by an author from Australia”) and this was highly recommended by my Australian friend. The writing was lovely and it was rich in Australian history and culture but I just could not get in to the story or care about the characters. Maybe I’ll revisit it in the future?
