2.5 stars. I remember liking book 4 the best and book 5 feels like a giant regression. You know when someone is trying to say something and not quite getting there and you just want to say "spit it out, already!" That's how I felt for this entire book. Melanie is more annoying than ever and really kinda dumb and there wasn't enough of Jack to balance her out in this book. Super predictable, as usual, and a little creepier than some of the others in the series. There was also an entire plot line with zero closure whatsoever, just floated off...not really even with an allusion to a future book, although I'm sure that was the point and it'll be the main plot of book 6. I'm sure when book 6 comes out, I'll read it though. I am curious about that dangling plot line. And hopefully Melanie will chill. (doubtful...)
The Tradd Street series never disappoints, I swear. Another ghostly tale with my neurotic Melanie. Lots of secrets revealed in this one. Definitely a must-read.
This is a paranormal mystery. I have really enjoyed other books by Karen White. This one was a bit more of a stuggle since the whole ghost thing kept interupting my reading flow. I should have read the description first, but I read it to fulfill a category in a reading challenge.
I love this series so much. This one wasn't my favorite due to the fact that Melanie is now more insecure and irrational than usual. It also was much more predictable than the last 4 books. There were new characters introduced and mysteries left hanging so it gives me hope that there will be another book in the series because this book felt like mostly a set up for a new direction. I will gladly read it if there is.

I’m no longer going to be rating books.
However, I think the supernatural aspect of these books is written quite well. I enjoy the way the mother & daughter are stronger together than apart and the Charleston setting. I struggle to relate to the main character sometimes but I enjoy Nola (the teenage daughter) and the best friend Sophie, who both always have abundant wisdom to share. I accidentally read the next book first, so I’ll have to wait until the 7th book comes out to read another of this series. (I’m hoping there’s going to be a 7th book).

Creepy drama about an old house, a nanny, and ghosts with an agenda. Loved the audiobook version.
Melanie Trenholm, from this author's Tradd Street series, returns. The real estate agent who makes her home in an old house in Charleston finds herself facing down another set of restless spirits. Secrets from her own past will also come to light.
Meanwhile, Mellie is juggling her recent marriage, new stepdaughter, and infant twins.
I like how Karen White's stories have just the right amount of spooky mystery, while delving into the characters' relationships and personal hang ups. Melanie, for example, is intelligent and capable, yet insecure and second guesses herself often. I think many women can relate!
I look forward to continuing to read her other books.

Okay, no secret that I'm a huge Karen White fan. On Folly Beach and The Forgotten Room are two of my favorites - but the Tradd Street series routinely scares the crap out of me. So why do I keep reading them? I have no idea, but I keep going back for more.
I like the characters, I like the scenery, and I like the stories. But I hate the ghosts! And this one was even worse because it's a creepy doll, and a young girl ghost and her mom. I'm getting the creeps just thinking about it again.
Melanie has a mysterious stranger show up in her office when she returns to work after a year home with her twins. It seems meant to be since she is a nanny and Melanie is looking for a nanny. Jayne moves into the house on Tradd Street with Melanie and her family.
Suddenly everyone is experiencing creative block, including Melanie who can no longer use her ghost sensing abilities, she continues to feel like a curtain has been dropped over her third eye. But Melanie isn't making the connection to Jayne, she is more worried about the relationship she feels is developing between her husband and the nanny - honestly, at times her jealousy seems pathological.
As the ghosts become more restless, the effects on Jayne and Melanie's life become increasingly difficult to maneuver. Melanie has no choice but to solve the mystery before it destroys her family.
And seriously, why do I torture myself with books that make it difficult to sleep? Every time, I say I'm never reading one of her ghost stories again, then I just fall for it all over again.

Seriously loving this series the 2nd time around as much as the 1st…. What’s not to love ghosts, a mystery, crazy Melanie who still tries to avoid everything that’s even a little bit uncomfortable & more family secrets are uncovered with a cliff hanger. Love the audio!
