Incredible sequel to Iron Widow with all the spirit and power of the original. Seeing Empress Wu come into being and learning how to temper her fury, without losing any of her lethality, was such a delicate balance that the author maintained masterfully.

I found Zheng and Zetian's relationship and the class war to be the most stable portions of the book. Anything that involved the Court of Heaven felt like it was either unsteady or falling apart at the seams at the end.

I really enjoyed watching Zheng's rule and how Zetian not only learned from it, but created her own group within it. Book 3 will likely still have some remnants of these factions and I'm curious to see how they're put to use.

I loved the first one. I loved the second one. I can't wait for the next one. A great mix of fantasy, sci-fi, and Chinese history/culture. Fast-paced, progressive. Highly recommend.

Whoa. So I listened to this one (which helped immensely with name pronunciation as well as being able to "read" this story in a reasonable amount of time). So many cleverly written twists, oddly relevant commentary on political ideologies, and intriguing characters. I love how Chinese history was used to create this fun, layered mess of a story. Amazing.

Also, Taiping and Wan'er -I loved how their history was humorously revealed, and how their characters developed. More of them, please.
