More profound than expected, yet an easy read. Definitely recommended.

Good in oarts, funny even, but what an awful main character. I couldn't get into it really because of him.

Review to come on Reverse Chrysalis, my book blog.

More profound than expected, yet an easy read. Definitely recommended.

I would have preferred to write my review as soon as I'd finished this book, last night, but upon closing it on the last page, I felt the immediate need to get up, run out, find Howard, and hug him indefinitely. Barring that, I settled for a late-night IM conversation.

I've watched the movie countless times, and I love it every time. Was the book better for its detail? Less so for its added complications? What was it? No, I think it was exactly what I expected. A familiar story with lines directly matched to the movie, all tied together with even more brilliant prose.

I loved it for its honesty, transparency, and self-denial. I loved it for putting into words exactly what I have always imagined or assumed Howard was thinking. It makes me wonder when he read it the first time -- it could explain so much! -- but I don't think I really want to know. It just feels as if he could have written every word of it, and I loved him more for its insight. I don't know if that should or does make sense...

I know that when I return this to Howard, I will need to buy my own copy and re-read it to make my margin notes. I never know how he'd feel if I scribbled messages to or about him in his own books, but he may never see them in my copies. We may have to work on that level of communication. It was so important when he was overseas.

On re-reading, I will compile a list of favorite lines and quotes, though I imagine it will comprise more than half of the book itself.

Five shiny stars, recommended to everyone who loves music, or loves a music-lover.

One of my top 10 favorite novels. I absolutely loved this book!

I wanted to like this book, but Rob sucks. He's a total scum bag and it just made me miserable reading about him. Why would I care about anyone so spiteful and hateful? The only thing I cared about is the friends in the story and the music. But seriously, this book is kinda the worst and the way he treated all the women in his life was just gross.

Rob Fleming may or may not be my spirit animal.

I love this book more than I should.

It's been a long time since I've seen the movie, but I did seem to recall that the main character, Rob, was rather unlikable. That said, at least one other character was worse (looking at you, Barry), and I even felt sorry for Rob once or twice. Glad I read it. Not sure I would recommend it to anyone, but I'm not really the audience for this book.

Thanks to Hulu’s High Fidelity Original show, I was excited to read this book. I have to admit, I liked the show so much better. Still have to watch the John Cusak movie... I just hope the main character isn’t as whiny as he was in this book. He was a bit neurotic at times and quite the attention hog.
