I sure read this book quickly considering that I could never fully decide how much I liked it. There was a lot of sex. Not so much gratuitous sex, but a lot of talking about sex and how many people the main character had slept with...I just didn't care very much, seeing as how my lifestyle is the complete opposite. There were also rather a lot of f-words, though I was expecting that, seeing as how this is a Nick Hornby novel.
The main redeeming quality of this book was how real it felt, which is why I like Hornby. Rob Fleming was a real person with real, complex emotions. He was often an idiot. A really big idiot. And he was a 36-year-old who had managed to squander away most of his life, blaming it on girls that had dumped him. It was rather sad, but then again, it was supposed to be.
In all, this book was okay. More than two stars, less than three. Definitely not my favorite Nick Hornby novel.

If I was a 30-something year old British man, I would be Rob. This is a wonderful book and Nick Hornby's simple but intelligent prose style blends perfectly the humor and the futility of life.
