This book simply did not age well.
I'm 100% convinced Rob hates women and needs therapy badly for any human connection to work. Laura loves him because...? I like that they try to work it out, the relationship stays toxic though.
The whole thing screams late 90s early 2000s in the worst kind of way.

I get it. He writes about losers and their ascend into becoming better people but Rob was just the f***ing worst character. Redemption arc? Not really there. Whiny baby horrible person. Few quotes in there I liked though.

i think this might be my favorite book.

Remember record shops?

High Fidelity is a favorite movie of mine and I read this book after having watched the movie no less than 27 times. I adore both, especially the way that John Cusack brought the role to film.

Bought this book because it would fit into my purse and was at the bookstore next to my house. Nothing happened, I didn’t like the characters and the lists felt forced. It was easy to read though which is why I finished it.

I needed a lighter read amidst all the heavy going stuff, and High Fidelity reminded me that I can be a fast reader too! It's only the classics that take me three weeks a piece.

I was entertained, I laughed, I smiled. I learned that I know nothing about music and the history of rock at all. Maybe the three stars is harsh for a book I didn't want to put down, but that is merely because, entertained as I was, I don't feel like I gained insight into anything. Life, the Universe and Everything. And maybe it's a bit picky, but I think a great reading experience is having an epiphany, gaining a deeper understanding of something as you read.

However, I needed a feel good read, and this was just that. I'd be quite happy to pick up About a Boy the next time I want an entertaining read! (Also need to rewatch this as a movie. Isn't Cusack the lead? But his accent...) (Wait! I just googled that! They changed it from a British setting into an American one! WANKERS!)

high fidelity featuring Zoe kravitz > high fidelity (novel) > high fidelity featuring John cusack

Movie better than the book? Not really but I'm biased--this book cracked open the Secret Code of What Dudes Are Really Like to me and did loads for my self confidence. No really.
