Having re-read the novel I think it still stands up.

I LOVED this. The main character is pretentious and unlikable but so real and somehow so relatable. I really liked the writing style; it felt fresh and interesting, and I enjoyed how the story developed. Dialogue was extremely entertaining, too.

In my late teens/early twenties I was a huge Nick Hornby fan. I somehow never read High Fidelity then.
I was hoping for a nostalgia feeling, I got hit with major sexism instead. Boy am I glad I read this in my mid-30's and not my early 20's. Because I've now matured enough to see the protagonist for who he is, an actual a-hole loser. So, yeah. Disappointing.
Still giving it two stars because I do love the writing of Hornby, but I couldn't get any sort of sympathy for any of the characters. An overall bummer.
