Corrie ten Boom comes from a family of watchmakers in Haarlem, Netherlands. This is the story of what her and her family did to get as many Jews as possible to safety during WWII. It takes you through her childhood and to the beginning of WWII when her family was working in the Underground, hiding Jews in their house, when caught being sent to prison and the to a women’s work/concentration camp in the Netherlands and Germany. Then after she survives it, she is then moved to make a place for those that had lived through the war and needed time to return to themselves again, after extreme trauma.
The story is extraordinary in the family’s convection to hold tight to God, Jesus and their faith and how their belief and faith helped them and others to get through it as well. Even some German soldiers were helped and after the war face true forgiveness by wanting to help them and what they were dealing with on their side of the war. A wonderfully, wise and thought-provoking story.
Corrie’s father was extremely wise in so much he said to others and to Corrie. I wrote many of the things he said down and hope to remember to tell them to my kids when they ask big, hard questions about life. This book was good for my heart and soul.

Honestly this was such a good book. At first, I was impatient with the retelling of childhood moments. "Let's get to the interesting part," I thought. But those childhood moments were so important for the understanding of who this incredible woman was and who her wonderful family members were. The message of hope and faith was beautiful. So good. So good.

Includes interesting history, but really written to be christian evangelism
Ten Stars! I’ve read a lot of holocaust novels/biographies but this was by far the best. An amazing story of faithful Christians saving hundreds of lives and proclaiming Jesus in the prisons extermination camps. Such a powerful testament to the power of prayer and following the Holy Spirit’s leading. The Ten Boom sisters had strong prophetic leading and visions for their ministry after the war and it brought me to tears to read how God fulfilled those promises. All glory to God for their lives and this powerful story.
There's so much to love in this story. So much to be challenged by. I know it's going to take reading this book consistently throughout my life for even a portion of it to sink in. But after my first time reading it, I'm sitting here completely blown away by the faithfulness of Corrie and her family. Their courage, steadfastness, and compassion seem otherworldly. And I guess that's kind of the point. Their persistence was not of themselves or this world; it had to come from Christ. I mean who can imagine forgiving those who betrayed and abused you? Only those who truly see the significance of God's forgiveness. I'll be thinking about this book for a long, long time.
Favorite Quote: Oh, this was the great ploy of Satan in that kingdom of his: to display such blatant evil one could almost believe one's own secret sin didn't matter.

A great story about WWII and a brave young woman. It was not what I expected when I picked it up, but it is a great story.
