DID NOT FINISH

This book was my grandmother's favorite. I remember reading it as a kid, and not understanding alot of it - I certainly didn't understand the Holocaust, or what it meant to love others unconditionally. For a totally different look at living through the Holocaust, read this.

This book was life-life-changingly good. It's about finding hope and strength in the darkest of places, and following God's will even when it seems impossible. Corrie's attitude towards life is so inspirational. I have a feeling this will be a book I go back to again and again when I am in need of hope. Please read this book- I expected it to make me angry about the inhumane treatment of people in the concentration camp, but instead it has given me a great sense of peace and a will to persevere. And it has reminded me to always use the Lord as my hiding place.

This is one of my favorite books. It taught me more about another place and time, and it encouraged my faith in the Lord. I would like to have met Corrie.

This is not a genre I particularly like, but I enjoyed this book quite a lot. We are planning a visit to the Netherlands and to Corrie's house. If I could give half stars, this would probably be 4.5 stars. The authors are excellent story tellers. I liked all the character studies and specifics on how they ran their underground activities. It is amazing that they ran their operation for as long as they did.

read for 10th grade English summer reading

This book was a truly inspiring story of Corrie ten Boom's experiences during WW II. It managed to still show the horrors that happened during that time but at the same time showing you the power of hope and faith. This book truly made me rethink how I should approach my faith and my interactions with others. I recommend this book to anyone because I think it has a powerful message of how we should see the world around us and how we should interact with each other. At the end of the book, the biggest lessons that I got from it was that every event no matter how big or small has value and worth to our lives, that our lives are the Lord's and that he has a plan for us all, and that hope and faith make all the positive difference to us and to those around us.

It's been a really long time since I've read a really substantial book. My students were supposed to read this for a book project, but it ended up being too long and would take far too much time for us to read in class. I read it instead, and I can't say how glad I am that I did. This spiritually reaffirming and shockingly human story of love, loss, family and forgiveness is inspiring. I will recommend this book to everyone I know.

Okay, so the many five stars all around on this here book page were warranted. It’s a heartbreaking, painful read. It’s also full of faith, strength, kindness and perseverance. I’m very glad I gave it a listen. The narrator is terrific and emotive and has the ability to draw you into the time and place instead of taking you out of it!

Corrie ten Boom is a 40 something spinster at peace with her quiet life. She is a watchmaker in her father’s shop and lives with her older sister and their kind father. She never expected to become embroiled in an underground revolution but when German soldiers invade her homeland and friends and neighbors start to disappear because they are Jewish or lending Jewish families safe harbor, she can’t stand by and do nothing. As conditions become increasingly worse for the unfortunate people in her beloved town, she decides to put her life in danger in order to save those of others. Her family has a hidden room built and they take in the desperate. Eventually she is imprisoned, along with most of her family. She recounts the long, grueling days of hellish conditions in prison and in concentration camps. The sickness, the starvation and the everyday cruelties inflicted.

I’m not religious but these characters are and they walk with a strong belief and unwavering (for the most part) faith and a gratitude for everything, even ants and fleas, yet I never felt preached at. Their faith makes up a big part of who they were and how they managed to make it through the inhumane conditions. If you read this account, it will leave a mark on you for certain. It’s not a book I will easily forget.

I don't have adequate words to describe how deeply impressed my heart is by this book. wow.
