Goethe didn't write this for some 22 yrs old to call it "mediocre" and "better if the two main characters (Faust and Mephistos) fucked" but here we are.
Had to read this for class in grade 11 or 12, and my opinions haven't much changed. It's probably a good piece of literature for that time period, but it just isn't as influencial in contemporary times perhaps, especially if you're not as well-read and knowledgable about Christianity and Gothic German society (15th century?). Part 1 can definitely be analyzed and is interesting (again, if you're into that kinda stuff), but Part 2 is kinda meh.
