fascinating little adventure that didn't require me to know what Ember in the Ashes even is :) though it did make the premise a bit unbelievable because i didn't know the rest of the worldbuilding. the plot was fun anyways. always interesting to pick up graphic novels to read quickly on a whim at the library

An interesting look into the lives of Elias and Helene before the events of the main quartet. I think that the creators of this graphic novel really work to show that both Helene and Elias' reactions to being masks is a result of trauma, and to show how Elias' sense of injustice at the crimes of the empire has always been there. I am not sure how this would read to someone just coming in to the story for the first time, but I enjoyed it.
