Heavenly disliked the use of second-person-pov and the story didn‘t catch me.

The Fifth Season
Let me be honest…The Fifth Season is not the kind of book you casually pick up and breeze through. It took me three separate tries before I finally committed to diving into the complex, layered world Jemisin created. And once I did?I was all in.
The story doesn’t hand you anything easily. You’re dropped into this crumbling world with no map, no guide, and characters whose identities and timelines are deliberately obscured. It’s confusing at first. But then I made the game-changing decision to read the glossary/appendix terms before really starting, and it helped me visualize the world, the caste system, and orogeny way better. From there, the book started clicking into place like a seismic puzzle.
What really blew me away is how complex and purposeful the structure is. Jemisin doesn’t just tell a story, she builds an experience, and every detail matters. The emotional weight, the world-building, the social commentary…it’s all intense, and it doesn’t let up.
Once I pushed past the initial challenge, I couldn’t put it down. Now I’m officially obsessed and ready to crack open Book 2.

Loved this book. The ending was so abrupt though. That's the only reason for the 4. I need to get the sequel.
