he says he HAD to obey his parents. HAD to do whatever they wanted. hes also mentioned that he has this thing about trying to please people that would judge him. 
why would you settle for a "forbidden love"? he should have held out for someone he didnt have to hide for.

An incredibly intimate and moving short novel set in a small French town exploring a beautifully heartbreaking love story between two young boys/men. Essentially, a sad little gay story which had me crying on the airport floor.

If the book's aim was to make me despise what it stands for — then, perhaps, I should grant it 5 stars.

The author would do well to replace the word "love" with "lust" throughout this novel. It included some beautiful prose, but the romanticisation of the toxic dynamic between these two men — rooted in shame, internalised homophobia, and desire — made me physically uncomfortable.
