As usual, Stine does a great job of telling a horror story, but also educating kids on certain topics. For this book, Stine focused on mummies. I enjoyed learning more about them, but I think this book is too slow for me…I was expecting more mummy action lol

I wish I understood why this book has such a low rating. I honestly feel like it's my favorite of the Goosebumps books so far. But I'm also an absolute sucker for anything set in Egypt. I also never read any of the Goosebumps books as a kid, so I didn't have any preconceived notions of what to expect, or any fear of being let down by a beloved childhood story revisited as an adult. It was all new to me.

I'm not sure how to format this review, so I'll just list my thoughts instead.

1. Admittedly, Sari was a bit annoying at times. I don't think I'd have gotten along with her as a child. I can see why Gabe wasn't thrilled about being in her presence. Gabe wasn't too bad though. I've certainly read MUCH worse.
2. I loved the setting. That's a no-brainer, since I said I love anything set in Egypt. But what I think I loved the most about this was how it's partially set inside one of the tombs. I haven't read a ton of books set in Egypt, so I don't know how common that is, and I'm not going to comment on the authenticity of the descriptions or the inner workings of an archaeological excavation. All I can say is I loved it and thought that was pretty cool. Definitely different than what I've read before.
3. I needed something easy to listen to while stitching patches on my battle jacket. The audiobook was easy to keep up with, and I wasn't confused about anything. The pacing was spot on and kept me interested throughout. I didn't feel like it dragged anywhere, or like it was rushing through things too much.
4. I liked all the twists. I liked the "scary" parts of the book. I liked how the characters got themselves in and out of their messes. Obviously there's going to be some suspension of disbelief for a story like this, and that's okay. I was just here for the ride and it didn't disappoint.

It's a simple little book, perfect for Halloween time. A few of the Goosebumps books didn't captivate me the way I was hoping they would, but this one absolutely did, and reminded me of why I want to continue reading through the series even though I'm an adult who never got to read them as a child. Apparently, even without a nostalgic attachment, they can still be enjoyed, and I'm here for it. Would kids like this now? I'm not sure. Would adults like this now, especially if they loved it as a kid? I'm also not sure. But I thought it was fun, and that's all I really wanted out of it anyway.
