First off, what a quick read 👏 LOVED the short chapters and how it was structured into different parts.

I really enjoyed this style of writing and how the story unfolded. It was very mysterious and unexpectedly heartbreaking. That twist 🤯😭 bring your tissues.

Looking forward to reading the prequel and watching the tv adaptation. Highly recommend you add this to your tbr. 🫶

Going with my gut on this 5 star. I may change my mind later but this was crazy. I truly did not see the plot twist coming but after I read it, so many little comments or details made sense and that is the way to win my heart. I also think I may have hated this book (in a good way).

This was okay! Quick summer read, like a palate cleanser after a lot of intense books. I hadn't realised how creepy it would be, but sometimes psychologically disturbing summer is also a vibe.

Writing was okay (so prosey it could get annoying at times), but I think the characters were quite flat, so it was hard to care about them. Possibly I am also very uninterested in the problems of rich white people who have a private island with servants (??). Truly did not expect the plot twist though, and after that I appreciated it more.
Did feel very sorry for them in the end, and cried a bit.

I suspect this is the kind of thing I would have eaten up when I was fifteen, but thankfully I am no longer fifteen.

WOW. JUST WOW. I had to sit there for a minute after reading this one. One thing's for sure, I did NOT see that plot twist at all.
I knew it had something to do with a fire, but woof.
But I will say, I really like the writing style. It really made it feel mysterious. Kudos to you, Lockhart! Great book and I can't wait to read the prequel.
