So when I started reading this I really wasn't feeling it. I thought this would be the first Emma Mills book that I didn't really like. Now, that I'm finished I can confirm that Emma Mills has proven me wrong. I initially wasn't a fan of Brit and I felt that the friend group was a bit weak, but she grows on you. I also think that's what make Emma Mills' books really great. Like Brit is such a flawed character and so are all of them really. Of course, I went through another emotional roller coaster and it was painful, but the good kind that means you're still alive.

I usually read contemporary YA pretty quickly, but I tore through this book even more than usual. I loved every single one of the characters and their snappy, hilarious dialogue. (I would read a whole sequel from Brit's POV!) I love how the plot went an entirely different direction from where I was thinking it would go. I loved the quirks of their small town of Acadia and the twist at the end...I just loved this book!

3 1/2 stars

Emma Mills is a gift. (Maybe the non-ARC version is a full 4 stars? I might have to re-read this book to be sure.)

This book made it clear that Emma Mills is officially on my auto-buy list. I've loved all her other books that I've read, and she is just so talented at creating a cast of amazing characters that you fall in love with.

This was cute, witty, funny, sweet… and while I enjoyed it very much, I felt it was lacking in something. Maybe it was the main storyline, maybe it was that I felt the ending a bit too rushed. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m comparing it to the other books that I have read by Emma Mills which I have absolutely LOVED. I can’t really put my finger on it right now. *shrugs*

I loved this from the opening page- it's trademark Emma Mills, the way she writes friendships and these fully realized characters. Their dialogue sounds like I'm eavesdropping on real people and I love that. I loved that it was a group of friends who lived near each other and knew each other since childhood. And I really liked the neighbors she babysat for and her burgeoning friendship/relationship with August. That being said, something was slightly missing for me the more I read, although there was a lot more kissing than her previous books which I loved of course!! And there were a few sad things I didn't expect that bothered me. But I will read everything Emma writes, forever :) Her friend groups are unparalleled.

4.5

I loved this book. It made me feel happy and thankful and all the feels. I loved the friend group. I loved August. He was incredible. It would have been a 5 stars if not for the fact that I kind of hated Brit. Like she’s just a terrible person. And I think the pacing could have been a little better.

I picked this book up mostly because of the pretty cover, but sadly that was probably the best thing about it. The dialogue between the friends was overly cutesy and very aware of its own wittiness, and a lot of the ~pLoT tWiStS~ that came in the last third of the book didn’t really have any impact on the overall story.

UMMMM I have a new favorite Emma Mills book!!!

It’s been so long since I felt that soul-crushing need to stay up late and finish a book. I set it down to go to sleep. Turned off my light. Rolled over. Rolled back over. Turned the light back on. Picked it up again.

It was that perfect Emma Mills sundae of heartfelt and funny. I always laugh out loud at her books, and this one even made me cry.

I just don’t know what else to say. It was incredible. I wish I could read it all over again for the first time.

I love Emma Mills. Her books are automatic preorders for me, and this newest book wasn't a disappointment. It arrived in the mail today and I read it in one sitting. If you like YA contemporaries and haven't read Emma Mills' books yet, do it!
