Hero is actually a 3 & 1/2 star book. Not as good as Generations of Winter, but not as bad as some reviewers have stated. The first 100 to 150 pages are not as well written, have, for me, the ugly stylistic issue of "Dear reader please forgive this intrusion..."and the sexual exploits of members of the Politburo really don't excite me. These parts are more likened to a poorly written porn novel from 1983. Hate those parts and they are there a lot in the first 150 to 200 pages. But, the last 200 pages become the rip roaring novel/novelist that we wrote so glowingly about from Generations of Winter. All together a good read, but it's not Generations. It is also not an "I need to write to make a buck book." As so many sequels are. Good read over all.
