More fantasy than scifi and utterly boring. The plot and subplots were trite with uninteresting characters and a poorly fleshed out setting
Despite the fact that this story develops in a quite slow tempo respect to the other novels written by Asimov, I must admit that it's a rather pleasant book to read.

I cannot help but feel I was listening to a version of The Scarlet Pimpernell...in space.
The writing style took me a while to get used to, but overall it was quite good. This is my first read of Asimov's work, but I doubt it will be my last.

Just kind of okay, rather a let down compared to about everything else I've read of his, it's short, if it were longer I may not have finished it. I know these kind of stand alone, so I will be curious to see if anything from this book carries over to others
Es tut fast schon weh, einen Asimov derart mies zu bewerten... Aber hier kann ich einfach nicht anders, es tut mir Leid. Ich war sehr kurz davor, das Buch abzubrechen. Hätte ich nicht schon bereits 3/4 davon gelesen, hätte ich es nicht beendet.
Irgendwie zog das Ganze bei mir nicht. Der Anfang war noch interessant und vielversprechend, aber das verliert sich ziemlich bald. Die Handlung und vor allem auch die Figuren wirken einfallslos und langweilig. Platt und gewollt.
Auch erzähltechnisch kam dieses Werk nicht an die anderen Titel Asimovs heran, die ich bisher gelesen habe. Fast schien es mir, als sei dieses Buch gar nicht von Asimov geschrieben worden. Während des Lesens war ich konstant gelangweilt. Zwar werden politische und gesellschaftliche Themen angesprochen, aber auch hier wirkt es unreif und nicht ausgearbeitet.
Der dritte Teil der Trilogie hat mir wiederum zugesagt, und nur diesem ist es geschuldet, dass ich auch noch Band zwei lesen werde. Hätte ich mit diesem Band angefangen, hätte ich die Reihe keinesfalls beendet.
Mal sehen, ob das nächste Buch besser wird. Aber eilen tut es für mich auf jeden Fall nicht.

This book is a mixture of science fiction with a chase and mystery. It has some political undertones and good twists in the plot. This is not science fiction with robots but is more science fiction in terms of occurring in space and available technology is more advanced than what we currently have. The story grabbed my attention in the first couple of pages so that I felt compelled to read the rest. It was easy to put down and jump right back into the story where I left off reading. This is a great choice for a short read. (218 pgs)
