I thought the story was a little rushed in certain spots and that the friendships (minus Dante) were also instantaneous. ALTHOUGH the main protagonist and Dante’s relationship saved the entire book for me. Dante was witty and sarcastic and blunt. I LOVED HIM! The plot twist at the end was clever and flew right over my head but clicked perfectly. I will definitely read the second one!

Honestly I wasn’t sure about this one at first. I was intrigued by the overall concept but the writing/storyline felt a little slow and it took me a bit to get invested. But I definitely got invested and the second half of the book was so good! I especially loved how the author wrote the ending part (I couldn’t put it down!). If you’re looking for a unique YA fantasy book, I definitely recommend this one!

I hated and loved this book. The first half was obnoxiously gloomy and painful, but the second half was cute and fluffy. While I wasn’t too big on the forgiveness part of the book — I think that they turned a religion into more of a cult thing that had cults against it, and I still think that those who pleaded for forgiveness should burn to death in their own bed — it was cozy!
I did not want to read this as a duology, but with an ending like that, how could I resist? Ugh. The only thing I hated about the book was that it took 200 pages in to really pick up.

Loved the world and characters were interesting to me. Loved Alessa’s personality, could relate at times. Dante was an enjoyable grumpy/sunshine trope. The pacing was a little meh at times but such a nice read.

Absolutely consumed with this story from page one to the very end.
Amazing characters and storytelling.

A very quick listen on Libro.FM, I think I started and finished in 24-hours! I really enjoyed the MCs, Alessa and Dante: forced together by extraordinary circumstances, they are imperfect, trying their best, and both experience profound arcs from start-to-finish. The supporting caste comes together really well; and the pacing is solid, full of twists and turns. The vocal performances are excellent, and I can't wait for the next installment. A definite summer read for fans of Victoria Aveyard, Margaret Owen, and Leigh Bardugo.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a copy for review.
Ok I wasn't sure how I was going to like this one as YA has been hit or miss with me lately but I devoured this book. I absolutely loved Alessa and Dante. Their banter and the tension was just *chef's kiss* perfection. Alessa lives on an island where every couple years hordes of demons are sent by a vengeful god to destroy the lands unless the Finestra and her chosen Fonte can defeat them with their combined gifts. In order to achieve this the ruling body has decided the Finestras must be isolated from friends and families. This doesn't work so great for Alessa as she kills everyone she touches.
I really enjoyed her interactions with the different Fontes and watching her learn to control her powers. Dante was also a really fun character. Very sarcastic and funny. I was low-key hoping this was a standalone but as it's not I will just slowly fade into the aether waiting for book 2.
