Nice ideas on how to build up a group. They identified the people
Problem when the host doesn’t direct the conversation and controversy goes out of control
Fight club analogy was nice but doesn’t work for family dinners. The history of why we don’t talk about sex politics and religion. That was interesting but it didn’t help create a situation when we can stop crazy conspiracy theories from taking over the meal/ mood/ taboo.

Such a simple book and concept, but I continue to keep thinking about it. I find myself bringing it up a lot to strangers too. Definitely worth reading if you’d like to enrich your gatherings.

Fwiw I don’t get why everyone thinks Taylor Swift is as big a deal as she is. That’s what this book felt like to me. Tons of rave reviews and a few good songs but practically nothing new or revelatory. In fact it was just long winded explanations of basic principles that I’m surprised people don’t already know. Had it been half as long it might be a decent read. As is it was laborious and full disclosure I only got half way through before swearing it off.

Great information but not sure I needed a whole book of it.

I have not read self help in a LONG time and it's one of those genres I'm most averse to. That said, that book is the warmest hug coming out of the isolation of pandemic life. This is such a well thought out and intentional book that has totally transformed the way I gather with my community in amazing ways.
