I love Alice Winter’s sense of humor. These topics could have made for a dark/suspenseful story, but she made it into a fun, lighthearted one.
So this is not a Hallmark Movie book! I really liked this surprising take on the buddy police/detective story was really well written and the characters were nicely three dimensional. I recommend it.
The plot was honestly amazing. The chemistry between the characters ?? chef’s kiss.
For the ones looking for spicy scenes, there are spicy scenes but they’re not as raunchy or explosive as you’d expect. That’s not the reason why I give this 4 stars though.
The book focuses more on the plot, and Lane & Felix’s relationship (it’s more comedic than romantic, honestly but i love it nonetheless).
My only—hmmm, reason that made me want to give this 4 stars was because I couldn’t feel that much of an emotional connection for Lane & Felix, if you know what I mean.
Like—I see Felix’s backstory and I love his personality—but the reason I actually rooted for him was because the action-packed scenes fueled it. I couldn’t quite feel his sadness very much or how lonely he truly was. By this I mean that several chapters into the book, you’d see that Felix was just doing his job, caring for Lane & all that—but I didn’t—quite see him growing to like being with Lane prior to him being roughed up by goons & thrown into the hellfire of badass, detective missions ykno ??
I guess, for me, I would’ve liked to see more fluffy moments between them besides the usual banter.
I’m probably rambling, but maybe you’ll see it when you read it.
I also wanted to see more of Lane’s perspective, like in those moments when he was by himself while Felix was out risking his life while Lane couldn’t do anything. I would’ve liked to see I guess his perspective as his feelings for Felix grew. It just—that would’ve been wonderful.
SUMMARY THO: THE BOOK IS GREAT. Just not as emotionally explosive/touching as I expected it to be.

I wasn't sure quiet what to expect; I saw it recommended on a facebook group so the cover is what drew me to the series but the description made me hesitate. I was wrong; this book is HILARIOUS! The relationship between these two idiots is fantastic

I read it again because a lot of people called this 'funny'. Well, the constant blindness jokes got annoying very fast. At to that an MC with the habbit to answer most insults with 'funny' and top it of with a writer adding after every joke "He laughed". Maybe I would have enjoyed it more with only the blindness jokes.
And again I don't want to read the sequel.

okay, compared to some of her other books, this one was just okay. I wasn't sure I'd actually continue the series, but decide to continue with a buddy read on the rest and I'm so glad I did! It just took me while to warm up to the characters and who they are. I really shouldn't have compared them to the Hitman series.
The series is, as usual, funny and I love how all the characters interact and essentially become family while dealing with their personal demons. Yes, the romance here was a bit quick for my tastes, but I'm so happy I continued and finished this series.
