Me gustó mucho.

I love books that make me think outside of the box. The one the world puts me in... And the one I build for myself....

The beginning was promising. I like the concept- underwater habitation for a research team studying an ‘anomaly’
The characters development seemed unrealistic and like shoddy stereotypes

Beth’s whole thing is that she’s a woman and been ‘victimized’ by men her whole life. The whiny petulant feminist who hates men and feels the need to bring it up.
Harry is similar but he’s stereotyped as the poor black kid who is a math prodigy. His race is mentioned over and over again by him and different characters. They use it to define his actions

I liked the horror scenes and the underwater battles feeling the suspense of them being trapped so far underwater during a hurricane.
The alien aspect seemed underdeveloped and left me wanting a more satisfying conclusion.
I very much disliked the ending.

I usually love Michael Crichton but this one was not my favorite. I enjoyed the “what ifs” postulated if humans ever encountered an alien species, but the fast pace didn’t allow for those considerations to breath; instead they were quickly discarded for the next action sequence.

“This special ability of imagination is what has made your species as great as it is. Nothing else. … Your greatness lies in imagination.
The ability to imagine is the largest part of what you call intelligence. You think the ability to imagine is merely a useful step on the way to solving a problem or making something happen. But imagining it is what makes it happen.
… You say you have inside you both the power of good and the power of evil, the angel and the devil, but in truth you have just one thing inside you- the ability to imagine.”
