I was so pumped with the first half of this book, what do you MEAN there was a giant metal ball at the bottom of the ocean and nobody knows where its from? It was so grippy at the start. I loved the scifi parts of this, i loved all the sciency bits.

And then things happen and this becomes more of an action thriller and im just left with so many questions. And not in a good way. I just thought there were a lot of plotholes and it was executed kinda poorly? But then this was written ages ago so yeah idk. (Also clearly a product of its time with the way it describes the women in the crew ugh)

youre telling me the US government is spending billions of dollars to send a crew of people underwater to investigate an alien metal ball, theres a STORM and thats all it takes and they cut contact and thats it? There is absolutely nobody from the outside making any contact. Why didnt they account for the storm in the first place?
Also in the ending they all float up with this submarine that has cute step by step instructions and youre telling me THAT WAS THERE THE WHOLE TIME THEN WHY DIDNT YOU GO UP IN THE FIRST PLACE? or why wasnt there ANY effort from scientists on the surface to make contact with them and figure out if theyre okay? Like what?

Listened to the Audiobook and it could have been narrated way better. The narrator had a dynamic voice but the differences in character voicings was minimal, and with there being so many characters to follow, this is a HUGE flaw of the book.

I did listen, so I know I missed some key things. This book moves fast and twists and turns every which way.

I enjoyed the ride. I was a little confused though so knocked off a star for that and the poor Audiobook narration.

Overall, a TERRIFYING tale of deep see discovery gone wrong. I was on the edge of my seat. Pretty good blend of sci fi and horror. Would consider reading again and actually READING it so the book makes more sense. There's a LOT that happens so that's the medium I would personally recommend.

Boring and quite disappointing. This book is his worst writing I've read so far. The story is all over the place, the characters are all confused n quite frankly very dumb and the plotline just is extended and everything is blah blah this blah blah that. IT IS A HOT MESS.
The premise is the only good thing about the book and overall if I collect the good stuff I guess I'd give it 1.5 stars as I entirely didn't hate it but good parts are so less that it's absolutely not worth it to read the book.
