First I want to start by acknowledging that I believe all the people who have come forward with sexual abuse allegations against Diaz.
My review is based on the book and the story itself- which I owned since before the allegations came forward- but I will not be engaging with Diaz' writing anymore.
This book is disgusting.
It is ASTOUNDING the blatant sexism that is in every story. It's not even the crassness- vulgarity and sex doesn't have to be misogynist. Sure, Diaz has technical abilities, pretty average depressed-teen lyricism, but the stories aren't worth it. They just aren't.

Either you are a fan of Junot Diaz or you're not. He is a master of voice. In this series of short stories, he brings back Yunior from The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao and takes the reader through his journey to love. My biggest criticism is the stereotypes this book continues to perpetuate but Diaz's writing style is one that I can't help but enjoy.
4.5/5 Really enjoyed this one! Favorite story would have to be "Invierno"
Where is his next novel? It saddens me to think I’ve read everything.
Necesito una nueva novela, por favor.

A good quick read, but keep Google Translate on standby.

This is my favorite Junot Diaz book. The Cheater's Guide to Love is brilliant.
I don't normally read books that are compilations of short stories, but decided to give this a try since it was at the top of most "best of 2012" lists and a I needed to read something a little less "heavy" after my last book. I did enjoy this book, especially the chapters about Yunior. It was interesting to see things through his point of view.
