I loved this book with a passion as a child, and it's still pretty amazing. It's adventure fantasy with a metaphysical twist and an incredible amount of heart.

It surprised me what an original theme, this book had, even though I didn't know about what theme this book had from the start. I really enjoyed this story even though it is a children's story. Good characters and a good adventure story next to that great drawing.

Reiz grāmatnīcā ieraudzīju šo grāmatu un pārskrienot sentimenta vilnim sapratu, ka jāpārlasa un jāsaprot vai jau derēs izlasīšanai maniem bērniem.

Es neatceros savas sajūtas vai domas no laika, kad šo grāmatu lasīju bērnībā, bet bija palikusi tāda skumja pēcgarša. Arī šoreiz grāmatas sākums ar frāzi “Kā var notikt kaut kas tik šausmīgs, - es sacīju, kā var notikt kaut kas tik šausmīgs, ka dažiem jāmirst, kaut arī viņiem nav pat desmit gadu?” iedūrās pakrūtē, visticamāk vēl vairāk un sāpīgāk kā bērnībā.
Taču kopumā, tad kad grāmatas stāsts pēc traģiskā stāsta pārceļas uz teiksmu zemi Nangijālu, kur nokļūst visi pēc nāves – tas kļūst dēku un piedzīvojuma pilns. Labais pret ļauno, pūķi un brīnumainas vietas – viss kā īstā pasakā pienākas. Tikai ar to atšķirību, ka stāsta galvenais vēstījums ir palīdzēt kļūt drosmīgam un pieņemt zaudējumu.

Lai gan skumja, taču brīnišķīga grāmata.
