Kelly Bishop was lucky enough to be passionate about the thing that she was also exceptionally good at from a remarkably young age. What’s even more amazing is how she was able, throughout her long and star studded career, to be optimistic and flexible. For someone who is consistently type casted to play characters with unwielding egos, she seems to be so able to accept that she has nothing to prove to anyone but herself. As she says; “I am so lucky to be me, because I get to hang out with myself!” She loves who she is without thinking she’s more important than others. She’s grateful for her successful career, but is so glad she is “a performer and not a star.”

I really loved this as an audio because I got to hear Kelly herself tell her story. What a gift to us all. I will be pondering her life and what she has to teach us about resilience and optimism for a long time.

i am one of memoirs biggest fans; i don’t care if i never even know anything about the author or their life, i will still devour a memoir. that being said i was very excited to get my hands on this. i’d love kelly bishop in gilmore girls and was interested in knowing more about her through her own words. this book fell quite flat for me. it felt very surface level; it felt that she spent 90% of the time reminiscing on her career as a chorus girl and that was about it. i felt as though anything that would’ve been nice to hear some introspection on was just tossed and glanced over. i did enjoy her being so open and candid about her relationships though, takes a lot in this day and age to admit that you were having affairs.
