These collections are the worst, so unsatisfying to read short novellas.

Carla Kelly's story was a good solid 3.5. You can always count on her for intelligent characters, truth of heart, and to get the historic details right. The rest of the stories in this collection are 1s and 2s, if that. Mainly silly young women who learn a lesson about life and love. DNF a couple of them. It was a relief to find only a few shy kisses and an occasional holding hands throughout, and affection based on character and moral fibre as much or more than physical attraction. Too many books go in the opposite direction these days, it gets wearisome sometimes, everyone leaping into bed, popping cherries, and trying out a little BDSM.
