“There is a knocking in the blood that is used to absence but hates this part the most. The sudden buried hope of illusion.”

“I am reminded of the righteousness I had before the scorch of time”

Limón’s sixth collection hums with the pictures of life it presents, rich in natural imagery and appropriately ordered seasonal energies. In pursuing freedom from the bonds of suffering and convention, her poems explore connections and parallels with the lives of family and animals, their freedoms and their shackles. Limón proves that there can never be too many poems about grandparents, dogs, trees and horses in a collection rich with sentiment and life.

I don’t know anything about poetry, but I liked this collection.

Overall, this book had beautiful imagery with earthy vibes. It didn’t leave a strong impression on me, but it was still lovely storytelling.

Audiobook side note: Ada Limón’s narration was nice. She has a soothing voice, like your wise tía.

Really lovely, prob more realistically a 4.5’er. Not every poem hit for me, but Jar Of Scorpions is a poem that I’ll continue to think about for a long time.

“What do you want for them? From here, we can make it up.”
