"I'm tired of everyone in this city feeding on vengeance. I'm tired of teaching our children to hate and fear other children because their parents are our enemies. And I'm sick and tired of acting like the only way to save our people is to cut down all who might oppose us, as if our enemies won't return the favor the instant power shifts.” -Alizayd al-Qahtani
This series has me yearning for more.. I loved this book even more than the first. Kingdom of Copper picks up 5 years after the great climatic battle at the end of the first book. Ali is exiled from Daevabad, Nahri is learning to navigate court politics, and Dara is ~dead~. The multiple POVs beautifully weaves the 3 character arcs as tensions continue to rise in Daevabad and beyond.
We further learn how far people in power will go to keep their power, as well as how much someone is willing to sacrifice to gain power. How far are characters willing to push “the ends justify the means” when they face or perpetuate injustices? The sociopolitical landscape in Daevabad has always been tense, but the ending of this installment had me holding my breath.
Ending this review off with this tender moment between Nahri and Ali bc they deserve the whole world

This was amazing. I read last 40% in one go. The action, the world building, the story. Wow. Hardly ever middle books in trilogy get this good.

What a fabulous read. Magical, mystical, adventure. Rich descriptions, believable characters, emotional, heart stopping. The first book of this trilogy was wonderful, this second one was even better. I can't wait to see what the third one brings.

!! a little spoilery so don't read more if you haven't read it yet:
This one suffered a bit from mid-book slowness, which affected my enjoyment while reading quite a bit. The difference in narrative mid-book (Dara's adventure / war-criminal activities versus Nahri and Ali building a hospital) was in my opinion too contrasting and it didn't do much for me. The ending was superb tho, lots of great character development too, but the book just didn't fully grasp me the way I'd wanted it to. I'm gonna give it 4 stars but it's more of a 3.5 for me.
