This series is so good. The mythology the setting, everything

4.5 ⭐️ This book was much slower at building up to the climax, but if you’re able to make it all the way through, the ending is definitely worth it!

This is one of the best sequels I've ever read. A brilliant plot with all the political intrigues and the characters that I love or hate or simply don't know how to feel about. I especially adored the development of Nahri, I love her so so much. The writing is just on point. Every time I opened the book I was immediately right there in this magical world in the middle of the action. The last part had me holding my breath and raised my pulse quite a bit. And some of it broke my heart.

If you haven’t started this series yet, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy or at the very least put your name on the hold list at your local library! ☺️
adventurous emotional mysterious medium-paced

The City of Brass was my favorite book of 2018, and the Kingdom of Copper has already secured its place as the best of 2019. S.A. Chakraborty is a masterful author and humanist (daeva-ist?). Her fantasy is perfectly paced. So often, adult fantasy is too much (dense, heavy, slow) or too little (wholly world-focused, a 20-minute read). The Kingdom of Copper fits perfectly in the middle.

I did not stop reading until I was through, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. The Kingdom of Copper manages to make plot twists, both delightful and truly heartwrenching, character-driven. It is easy to understand flawed decisions and political nuance because Chakraborty allows you an intimate view into each character's motivation. I could see myself and the people I love in all of the characters. Special shout-out to the Al Qahtani trio, Muntadhir, Ali, and Zaynab, who stole my heart in this book.

Beyond the characters, the world-building is beautiful. Chakraborty gives you enough to feel totally immersed in a world and to feel like it's been existing alongside your own all along.

I can't say enough about this book. Somehow even better than the first, I would recommend it to anyone I know.

DID NOT FINISH: 32%

I hated the time jump. For 200 pages nothing, I mean literally nothing of importance happened. And a lot of the things could've been resolved a lot more simply.

I'm still in love with this world and these characters. I can't recommend this series enough. I feel like there was an incredible amount of development both in the overall world and for the characters and their relationships. That ending made me immediately pick up the next book because I need to know what happens next RIGHT NOW.
