Super cool!! I loved that Catalina is so good at delegating, it's the healthier option and an awesome option. Loved that she could could be so selfless in front of someone she wants very much.
SpoilerSo! I am reassured, after he kills the bitch they can be together Yesssss. You need to read the last part, it's super cute
adventurous funny mysterious sad tense fast-paced

Such a well-done paranormal romance! You can't read this and not love House Baylor, plus Linus Duncan is basically Ironman, how fun is that! I love the sizzling romance between Catalina and Alessandro and all the obstacles in their way, I have to keep reading just to see how they will overcome everything that is thrown at them.

Ilona Andrews is so skilled at writing action-paced dramas. They balance action scenes with romance in a way that never makes you want to skim the fight to get to the romantic banter.

Emerald Blaze just came out and I'm on the waiting list at my library to read the next installment of Catalina's story. I'm really looking forward to learning more about Alessandro's quest and I hope maybe Catalina's mom will go on a date with Sgt. Heart???

While fun, at times it felt a little too romancey. The focus was still the intrigue, but I wish I wish it was more subtle with the attraction.

 * My star review is based solely on my enjoyment.

I'm just going to say it.. I miss Nevada. She was a pain in the ass, but she was OUR Nevada.

The slow burn between Catalina and Alexandro was obnoxious to me. Someone else's review said it was very YA and I have to agree. The whole self-debate, "I can't but I want to, I want to but I can't.." got old, QUICK... and then it goes on for the entire book.. andddddd it was just a set up for more books.

Ugh.

Usually their books follow and intelligent version of the fantasy-romance genre. The first trilogy in the series did well. This opening book in the second set in the series is a failure to which I almost gave one star, the writing saved it.

It's a failure for two key reasons. First, Nevada, as written in the first book, would never do the disappearing trick. She created the House and was dedicated to it. She and Conner were equals. To run away as a petulant child, leaving her family to struggle through the three years and then not be there when those safe years end is a monumental failure by the authors.

Second, in this genre, you always expect the main pair to be hot and hot for each other. However, Allesandro is an idiot, an ahole and a liar, Catalina ignoring all that because he's hot is another failure of what should have been a strong character.

The characters ruin the book, the plot doesn't matter. I'm not sure I'll read the next.
