I didn't enjoy this chapter as much as the first 3, it starts with a change of main characters flipping to the 2nd eldest sister in the family. I liked the story but it just didn't spark the same level of interest as the other books. The characters didn't entrance me as much. If I had been reading it instead of listening to an audiobook, I probably would have dropped it.
But I think it's a me thing because it's a well written interesting story with in-depth characters that I'm sure most people would love.

Out of the many authors I have read and hundreds of books...Ilona Andrews will always be my favorite. The world settings, details and humor this husband and wife team create in all their series are like no other! This book is a wonderful continuation of the series. I’m sad it’s over and can’t wait for the next! Sad over a book? Yes! It’s rare I feel that way at the end. Only Kate Daniels and Hidden Legacy have made me feel that way. Love love love these authors and the wonderful worlds they create!
rereading so i can read the final book in catalina's trilogy.
i enjoyed this but i think i missed some of the slightly less fast paced moments of nevada's trilogy. i'm also just... confused by alessandro. i don't dislike him or catalina but it's hard to totally love him when the introduction of his character is so bizarre. he shows up with no context, and i get that's part of the plot but it makes it a little confusing when we're expected to trust him for virtually no reason.
if you get easily bored by fantasy romance or think they're too slow paced/the plots are typically shitty you will NOT be disappointed by this series tho.

I was so excited to read Sapphire Flames after getting inside Catalina’s head in Diamond Fire and of course, Ilona Andrews did not disappoint! I loved Catalina even more, I thoroughly enjoyed her banter with Alessandro, and I can’t wait to see even more of them. Sapphire Flames was absolutely wonderful and I loved it!
It never occurred to me that one of Nevada’s sisters would take her place as my favorite, but Catalina really snuck up on me. She’s quiet and lowkey, but she’s so strong and determined to protect and do and be the best for her family. She’s really coming into her own and I really looking forward to seeing how much more she’ll grow before all is said and done.
Sapphire Flames gave me all the feels. It angered me, made me cry and caused me heartache, but I also had so much fun reading it. It was highly amusing and entertaining and that was mostly all due to Catalina and Alessandro’s dynamic — I never wanted them to be apart, I just loved them so much. They’re so great and I’m very excited to watch their relationship progress even more in the next book!

Ilona Andrews is an auto-buy for me.
Probably my favorite UF writers.
I'll need to do a series of in-depth reviews of their work at some point;
They really are top-notch storytellers, delivering a perfect mix of striking world-building, engaging plot, compelling and complex characters, witty dialogue, quiet moments, and heart-pounding action.
They also write sexual tension and believable relationships like nobody's business :P
This book was just as entertaining as I'd hoped it would be.
★★★★ 1/2 stars!

Catalina is cool but I'm not on board with the romance. They met twice (on the same day) three years ago and you've been pining for the other person? Nahhh, you guys exchanged like three sentences. Didn't buy it.

2023: with the excpetion of this one small, insignificant thing i mentioned earlier that i am still and never will be over, i think this book might be even better than burn for me. mm.
2020: i stand by what i originally said. also, alessandro, yes, thanks for asking, i will indeed marry you.
2019: how dare you leave me hanging like this? have you no heart, count sagredo?
the more i think about it, the more it bothers me that a certain very important plot point happened off page. thats a second strike for you, and also.

I started this already knowing I wasn’t a huge fan of the switch in narrators (generally) or Catalina (specifically) from the previous novella. Despite that - this really grew on me! I was thoroughly invested by the halfway point and now need the next two books immediately.
Short Summary: Catalina Baylor, the new Head of House Baylor, begins investigating a double murder that just so happens to involve her teenage crush Alessandro Sagredo.
Thoughts: The original Hidden Legacy series was filled with snarky humor, off the charts chemistry, and fascinating worldbuilding. This spinoff series is lacking everything but the latter.
Verdict: I absolutely adore this magical world that IA has created and while I’m pleased that they decided to continue writing stories set in this world, Catalina and Alessandro just aren’t Nevada and Rogan. I’m still satisfied with the story itself so it’s not a complete loss.
In a nutshell, GIF style:

I received this book free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
