To be honest I wasn't sure about this book at first. After following Nevada for 3 books I really liked her and Rogan as well and I would have loved to read more about them.

Here the focus is on Catalina, the middle sister who I liked in previous books but had no real interest in. Yes her powers were fun, but we saw so ljttle of her compared to Nevada and Rogan.

It took me a few chapters to get into it, but once I did I really enjoyed this. We started with a timejump of 3 years, needed for the plot I know but there are missing storylines! Also Nevada and Rogan are conveniently in Europe the whole book...so I was a bit annoyed at the start.

The character of Catalina changed and became more interesting. Again, a bit annoying that those changes came during the time jump. However those changes gave her more depth and fire.

Plotwise we have a murder/kidnapping, internal House security issues and oh yeah...Alessandro (the Hot Prime Catalina had a crash on for years) suddenly shows up everywhere.

A fun read and I will continue series but not up to 5 star level for me.

the younger voices of catalina and alessandro were a fun change though i feel like their relationship wasn't really developed beyond their straight up bickering lol. this series continues to be enjoyable and really easy to read but somehow this book simultaneously felt like a lot happened and nothing happened at all ?? regardless, will be continuing with this series

Although I enjoyed the original trilogy, I think I like this book more. This particular spin on what a Siren is really intrigues me. Catalina can do things that most people cannot even fathom. Her powers have been kept a secret but now that she is the head of house and a prime in her own right. She wants to show Nevada that she can protect their family and she can be okay living with her new husband.
Alessandro is very mysterious. There is no way that he is an assassin but if that's what we're supposed to believe, I'll hold on for now.
There is so much about this family that is fantastic. I love Bug too and am so curious about what might be in his future.

So far, this is my favorite in the overall series.

(This is my second time reading the book. This time, I listened to the audiobook, which is also very good.)

An easy happy ending for Catalina after the brief (possibly considered romantic) encounters with her Romeo in the previous books is obviously too good to happen, so what does Ilona and Gordon do to Alessandro?
Make him a deadly assassin where the playboy persona was all a front
🤣 I live for that extra level of deception. Their interactions with each other are very funny. My favourite scene is the one with the pepper xD.

I'm no longer surprised that these authors can make me be fully on the side of the new main protag (Catalina), to the point where I'm upset with a character that I had met first (Nevada). It's cool that I'm able to see N's flaws so clearly from Catalina's point of view. They've done something similar with George in the Innkeeper Chronicles (another excellent series they've written).

The overall plot for this arc should be interesting. It's part of the find-the-missing-objects-before-it-ends-the-world trope family, but fixed in a way that makes it unique to this world 😊 The goal isn't revealed until later in the book after Catalina does the work to uncover it. A nice bit of mystery for you.
