the slow realization that nothing ever truly changed is what killed me. this book was so crazy I love it. The way it still holds up now is crazy.
Read the book with my kids in a single afternoon, and then watched the terrible TV movie (I don't recc the movie at all). The kids really liked it and so did I. We'd stop at the end of each chapter to recap and make sure everyone knew what was going on.

I read this in high school and remember really liking it. I vaguely remembered the plot and I thought the social/political commentary was very interesting. After rereading this (in America) in 2025, it is certainly a MUCH more disturbing read. Still well written nonetheless. I hope high schools and still reading and talking about this book. Even though it probably would go over a LOT of heads unfortunately.
