This one was tough to read, what Aiden is put through it hard to stomach. James also has his own stuff that is hard in a different way (though not really that different to be honest, just less physical). I just wanted to scream at them "YOU DESERVE BETTER GET OUT!" But that's credit to the writing that I felt it so strongly. I like how Aiden wasn't just cured, you see him slipping into bad habits and you see James struggle to not let him. I liked that an Ace character didn't suddenly start loving sex just because he fell in love.

A triumph
For a story that starts in a very dark place it manages to turn focus on the brightest of threads so by the end it feels sparkling and triumphant.
Definitely worth the read, and I plan to track down the rest of series immediately.

The need for the books in this series to always have life threatening drama does make me roll my eyes a little, but as one of the characters points out, this is real behavior in real people, even if I want to pretend that no one is really that evil.
Aidan's viewpoint as the victim of abuse was painful to read, as it seemed very real, though I wish there was more explained about the beginnings of the relationship.
So excited to see an ace protagonist in a romance novel!
