Amazing, aaalmost a 5, but not quite. Like 4.49 or something

“I suppose it doesn't matter how they get out. All that matters is they do. And when they do, they must be found. They must go back.”

I really like the idea of The Archived where the dead are on shelves in a Library and the Keepers job is to take them back there when they wake. Mackenzie Bishop's is a Keeper chosen by her grandfather when he passed. It was a very intriguing and captivating story with an interesting concept which Victoria Schwab wrote very well. I liked the little flashbacks to "Da", her grandfather teaching her how to be a Keeper. I enjoyed the characters in The Archived, especially Mac and Wes and Roland, the Librarian. The mystery of The Archived was also good, but towards the end, I did see the plot twist coming, but it was interesting nevertheless.

I would definitely recommend.

V. E. Schwab has the best concepts and settings but this one is sure one of her first stories and you can see through what she mostly lacks. Delivery and deepness and a better ending. Though I am really invested to know what happens to Mackenzie Bishop and her eyeliner companion as well as the Coronado and all its inhabitants.
Fast paced, short chapters, very easy to read. First person point of view in present tense, with a few chapters in a second person and the past to tell the story about her grandfather, who gave her what defines her.
Nice and sweet story!

Actual rating: 4.5⭐️, but give me a day or two and I bet I’ll bump it up to a full 5⭐️.

I don’t think I’ll ever read a Schwab book I don’t love with all my heart. There’s something about them that just speaks to me. I can’t wait to read The Unbound!!

Also, I will protect Roland to my dying breath.

That was a sweet first book in the series.
[a:V.E. Schwab|7168230|V.E. Schwab|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1511218938p2/7168230.jpg] comes up with absolutely delicious premises for her books. Dead people preserved on shelves in libraries. Hello, yes!
I'll be honest, like the other books by her that I've read, this took me some time to get in its groove, but once I was on, I sped through it with unabashed pace.
I liked Wesley Ayers a lot - confident, kind and smart male leads do so much for a book. Mac needs more before I like her, and I suppose that trajectory is one of the things that worked for this very popular series. The lore built around The Archive is so fascinating that I cannot wait to read more about it.
I have started on book 2 as I write this review. So, that sums up how much I enjoyed [b:The Archived|10929432|The Archived (The Archived, #1)|Victoria Schwab|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1338729878l/10929432._SX50_.jpg|15846509].
