Wowwwwww! I read this book as a part of the Dark Vault but I wanted to write a special review. Not my first Victoria Schwab but it was so good!!! I read it all in one sitting pretty much!!

This was such a great read! I mean, obviously, it's Victoria Schwab. Everything she writes is amazing (at least what I've read so far by her is). I really loved the world building in this. The concept of he Archive and Narrows is so wonderfully creepy!

Another thing this book has going for it is THE CHARACTERS! I found Mackenzie to be a really amazing protagonist because she was so driven and strong but also wasn't some machine that could do everything with no effort. I also loved Wes a lot. He was a very dynamic and interesting character and I hope to see more of him.

To be honest, it took me a little while to become fully invested in the plot. But, once I was I couldn't put this down!

Lastly, the writing was phenomenal, as one would only expect from Victoria Schwab. I can always picture her characters and settings really well in my head, which doesn't happen often.

Overall, The Archived was an incredible book. I think it's my second favorite book by Victoria, after A Gathering of Shadows. I would recommend this to anyone who likes creepy, atmospheric books with great characters and murder mystery-ish elements.

Excellently written. Tight plot, engaging characters. Well done!!

SpoilerHe leans, reaching until his fingertips graze Dante’s Inferno, still on its bed of folded sheets.
“What have we here?” he asks.
“Required reading,” I say, starting to scrub the counter.
“It’s a shame they do that,” he says, thumbing through the pages. “Requirement ruins even the best of books.”

I absolutely loved this book! I was constantly so captivated by this book and 100% recommend reading

Very creepy - Very haunting - Very well written!

Schwab is a delight, and she never fails to weave a story whose world is fascinating and delightful all at once. The Archived is no different. Its protagonist is daring, its mythology is fascinating, and the twists and turns of the plot are exciting and surprisingly while also being earned. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and look forward to reading the sequel.

3.5 stars.

I enjoyed this, but not as much as I'd thought I would. If you have anything resembling a library in your synopsis, I'm likely going to pick the book up, and a library of the dead sounded particularly intriguing. There was a lot to love about this story - action, adventure, twists and turns - and it was fast-paced enough to make it very easily readable, but I never quite connected to our main character. Maybe it's because this was a series, but I'd expected a bit more emotional growth/change in Mackenzie from the start of the book to the end, and I didn't really get that. I might pick up the second one, but it's not a high priority for me right now - maybe if she ever completes the series I'll give it a read then.

I don't quite feel it, like... I like it, but is just there and that's all... 🤔

A cool premise but cliche book in itself. Now that I've invested the time into it, I will ride the series out, but if I could go back in time I'd choose not to start this series.
