It's always a bittersweet feeling when a book series comes to an end, and that sentiment rings especially true with this one.
While I appreciated how the story wrapped up, I found the journey there to be a bit of a struggle. The book could have benefited from more editing, as much of it felt repetitive, leading me to skim through certain chapters. At 770 pages, it dragged in places. The abundance of sex scenes, while frequent, seemed to detract from the plot at times, and some moments felt more like filler than essential to the story.
That said, I still enjoyed the cast of characters. Ash was fantastic as always, and Reaver and Nektas brought their usual joy to the narrative. However, Sara's character development was frustrating, as her decisions, especially concerning Kolis, felt off. The outcome for Veses also left a bad taste in my mouth, though I'll refrain from going into details.
There's a particular trope in this book that I really dislike, and whenever it appears in a story, it tends to annoy me. Unfortunately, when it showed up here, my already lukewarm enjoyment of the book dropped even further. I pushed through mainly because I was curious about the ending and how it would connect to the next FB&A book, which did make the effort worthwhile for the most part.
In summary, while I appreciated how the storyline unfolded, the execution didn’t live up to the rest of the series, which is disappointing since I was so excited to read this book. That being said I would recommend reading if you have read the other books.
