I am obsessed with Roman, Violet, War, Babs, the parents, the friends, almost all the characters, but not VIVIAN. I hate Viv. I normally hate OWD, but I like the unhinged way Jamie writes it. just kill them

Here’s the thing with book two: the same thing that I didn’t like in the first book happened here as well, but there was a plus side, and that is part one. It was all about the characters’ childhoods and how they met, as well as the fun stuff they did together. Roman and Violet fell in love when they were kids, and they practically did everything together, even though he was mated to her twin sister (which might sound bad the way I’ve written it here, but there’s absolutely no love lost between Vivian and Roman). Another thing I did not like was that this book felt too long. It was 446 pages, and most of them felt like filler chapters just to get there. Overall, it wasn’t my favourite fantasy read, and I don’t think I am going to continue with this series.

It’s unhinged and dark and sweet and completely angsty, tragic insta-love that spans more than 10 years.

There is a TON of other woman / other man drama, but the two main characters are just so unbearably obsessed with each other that the majority of the OWD/OMD didn’t even matter to me lol.

Some things didn’t make sense, not much world-building happened, the relationship between Violet and Vivian made me so mad… Also, why couldn’t Roman have told Violet that he liked her back at any point and spent 12 years trying to figure out how to break/transfer the bond?? Instead of angsting and murdering and stalking and pining… but honestly that was all pretty fun to read about. Still, I don’t know why Violet had to spend 12 years in the dark about what they were to each other.

I know this is technically pretty dark but this was overall a giggly good time to me. I LOVED the side characters, Roman and Violet’s band of friends were delightful. The banter between Violet and Roman actually had me laughing out loud a couple times. Roman’s parents were also hilarious, especially his mom lmao

I think I enjoyed the first 2/3 of this book more than the last 1/3. I’m glad Violet started getting wise to some of the sabotage attempts and finding out the truth about Roman’s feelings for her but it still seemed to drag for awhile between finding out they loved each other and actually getting together, as if they hadn’t both been pining for over a decade. It just felt like the last 1/3 of the book wasn’t structured or paced as well as the first 2/3. It didn’t seem to flow very well and I think as a result, the climax of their decade-long epic love story just didn’t have quite the emotional punch that I had been hoping for.

Also, once they were finally together, there was one awkwardly added spicy scene that just seemed out of place and gratuitous and it kinda threw me off. Don’t get me wrong, it was hot and well-written, there was just zero build up to it. I did, however, really enjoy the post-wedding scene, I thought that one worked and fit the story and their characters well.

I’ll probably be reading the rest of the series since I do love the way this author really leans into the angst and pining and absolutely deranged MMCs

I liked Roman a lot more than Rennick because I'm a big fan of forbidden love. You can't get anymore forbidden than him being mates with someone else.
Roman vowed to break thousands of years of tradition to marry her at any cost. Nothing would stop himn from having her, not even the gods themselves.
"No, you watch it," Roman returned with a lethal note in his deceptively calm voice. "I will marry Violet. If our people refuse to kneel before her, I will cut them off at the knees. They will have no choice but to kiss her feet:"

Are these books works of art? Yes, in their own way.
While they aren't masterpieces, it is my humble opinion that the way in which Jamie can get my hand glued to my e-reader to finish her books is art.
Sadly, there were a few grammatical errors, which is the only reason this isn't 5 stars for me.
I loved every second of this duo's story.
