A great follow up to the author’s first book! The writing while technical is also conversational. I love how the author introduces each chapter with a scene of what life may have been like for the animals he’s going describe or discuss their discovery. The illustrations are beautiful, it’s cool that they’re drawn by a fellow paleontologist! I hope the author writes more, because I will definitely read it!

DID NOT FINISH

I tried to read this and it was so childish and hard to get through. The author was constantly making up stories about what an animal's life must have been like millions of years ago or telling a random tale of his days in graduate school.

Obviously I want at least a little bit of spice and personal interest in my non-fiction, but here I felt like I was getting all fluff and no facts. Maybe at some point I'll pick it back up again, but at least for now, I'll pass.

A deeply frustrating reading experience.

Just tell us about the mammals! We don't need the Tom Petty jokes!

This was a very interesting book! I found myself thinking about it when I wasn't reading it. So many interesting facts within. It's crazy to think how vast life has been before us. Really makes you feel insignificant! But in a good way.

Also this is like majorly a book that talks about teeth at least 50% of the time - but in a very interesting way.

Just not what I'm looking for right now. Very science heavy. I may come back to it later on, maybe in book format.

loved it just like his previous book. I learned so much about mammals that I never knew prior. I recommend it

I wasn’t expecting to become so emotional at the end of this book. The end made so both pessimistic and optimistic about our future.
