Goes shockingly well with the May Sarton journal that I’ve just read.
The last page particularly - excitement for solitude and the joys of having relationships that allow, and celebrate, that personal space.

Tove! After loving The Summer Book, I am delighted to find that Fair Play is just as charming and even more astute.

Perfect for lovers of Frog and Toad, Jonna and Mari are two older artists who live together on a remote island off the coast of Finland. Pulled from Jansson’s relationship with her partner of over forty years with Tuulikki Pietilä, the book is never explicit, but the two characters have a pure love and respect for each other. We see their movie nights, bickerings, artistic practices, and devotion. Only 100 pages but staggering in its vulnerability.

tove är verkligen bra på att skildra allt det stora i det lilla. relationen mellan mari och jonna var så vacker och det kändes nästan magiskt att få se samspelet mellan två karaktärer som känt varandra så länge.

This was such a healing read--an excellent portrayal of long-term partnership (readable as lesbian or queer-platonic) that explores aging, non-normative methods for meaning-making, and the value of distance even while living together.
