I think if you are looking for the book version of The Magnus Archives you may walk away dissapointed, which is a shame because I think this book shows that Sims' writing excels not just in short form podcast episodes.

I didn't find it particularly scary, but I'm a hard nut to crack when it comes to horror so ymmv on that front. The ending was so satisfying and I'm definitely going to get Sims' other book and keep an eye out for any new ones in the future.

Being a big fan of the Magnus Archives I was very excited to read this book by the same author and ultimately bummed at the outcome. I feel like he's so talented in short form that a longer work didn't satisfy me and wasn't as beautifully crafted as the Magnus archives. If you're looking for spooky, mysterious, unsettling and sometimes heartwarming skip this and go to the Magnus Archives instead. Not a bad book but after experiencing the horror podcast it fell short.

the politics of this book are about as subtle as a brick to the back of the head but hey I'm not complaining they're good politics

this is very magnus coded and it's a very quick read, spooky and engaging, jonathan sims I love you
