I try my best to make sure that the books that I read are a variation of subjects, style and derivation. Not because I have to but I feel it gives my reading habits depth and I rarely get bored.
But the biggest reason is I want to read about different parts of the world. The great thing about books is the way it can teach you about other people experiences from different parts of the world.
The vietnam war I feel was skipped a lot when I was in school. So reading this book educated me a lot.
It is masterfully written and jumps with you through the chaotic years of the war. There are scenes described that are hauntingly beautiful in their obscenity and darkness. My favorite is when the lead character travels with his love, to the front, through a Vietnam that has just started to feel the wrath of war.
