This book focuses a large majority on the main characters feelings and experiences from being a young girl onwards, some of it is relatable but some of it is uncomfortably graphic. If you're familiar with the movie that it probably only 1/4 of what's in the book.

This book was emotionally draining. It was intense but also moving in some places. I loved a lot of the side characters just as much as I loved Cameron. They made the book what it was!

This book is written with a LOT of emotion. Maybe it should be a bit clearer how bad Promise is, but I think that reflects Cameron's experience — with complicated feelings towards her own feelings, towards other people, towards what she is doing or not doing.
