Novelist Eliza was discovered one night in a pool and her family assumes it’s one more of her many suicide attempt resulting due to the tumor in her brain. Eliza though is pretty sure she was pushed and is confident that somebody is stalking her. Soon Eliza enlists the help of a friend that rescued her and tries to piece back the events of that night. But reality and fiction collide and Eliza is unable to differentiate between her novel and her real life.
Sara Shepard has a way of drawing out the characters and sympathizing with even the unlikable characters . The book started slow for me but picked up pace in the middle. A slow moving suspenseful read enjoyable by all Sara Shepard fans

More of a 3.75/5, but I rounded up. I thought it was predictable, but still interesting to see how they used the trope.

It was definitely a good mystery. And seeing the parallels between characters was great. I just wanted a little more at the end. Other than that it’s a good one!

Eu não tive grandes expectativas com este livro porque já conhecia a escrita da autora ("Pretty Little Liars"), então imaginava algo bem fluído com personagens detestáveis. Não me prendeu como eu queria. Eu parava num capítulo, e pouco tempo depois já me esquecia do que tinha acontecido e precisei reler algumas partes pra me situar novamente depois de pausas. Não me apeguei aos personagens. A protagonista, Eliza, é interessante, mas ela julga as pessoas ao seu redor de uma maneira que pra mim não se encaixou na personagem. Aqui temos descrições estranhas como "ela tinha cara de aranha" ou "cabelo de colmeia", e especificações de grifes, não faz sentido com o que nos é apresentado dela.
Tem romance, mas faltou sal, química. O cara é basicamente o oposto dela, e só é usado quando a Eliza precisa se sentir bem, ter alguma companhia que a apoie. Faltou desenvolvimento aqui. Fora o instalove da parte dele. Ele facilmente perdoava as pisadas de bola dela, conveniente demais pro meu gosto. Se a história tivesse levado esse personagem pra outro rumo, teria sido interessante. Umas 100 páginas poderiam ter sido facilmente descartadas pra evitar repetição. Você descobre algo importante, e daí tem mais umas 100 páginas pra acabar. Muita coisa que acontece nos trechos da história que Eliza escreveu poderiam ter sido encurtados, parecia que a autora estava martelando na minha cabeça o que estava acontecendo.
A grande reviravolta é previsível mas o desfecho me agradou. Poderia ter sido melhor, mas foi satisfatório.

This thriller was easy to get into from the start. The cast of characters are interesting, diverse and relatable. Mysteries and plot twists kept coming and I stayed engaged throughout the story. I honestly didn't see the end coming!
If you are looking for a vacation read, this is a must! I think Sara Shepard did a great job transitioning to adult fiction. I look forward to her next novel!

If you enjoyed the Pretty Little Liars series growing up, whether it was the show, the books, or both, then you will enjoy this book. It is for adults who may not fully be able to handle the heavy intensity that comes with psychological thrillers but can take it in small doses.
The Elizas has the suspense typical of Sara Shepard, keeping you waiting to see what happens but still keeping it young and fun, parallel to YA novels. Go ahead and read this book if you were looking to bridge the gap from YA psychological thrillers into Adult psycho-thrillers

Eliza is a troubled young woman. She is recovering from a brain tumor, and has just finished her first novel, The Dots. The Dots is a story of Dot and her aunt Dorothy. Dot idolizes Dorothy, but doesn't realize that Dorothy is not the best person for her. Eliza's parents and stepsister are concerned that Eliza is suicidal.
This novel is billed as being Hitchcockian in its tone, but I never got the feeling of suspense and foreboding that Hitchcock was able to evoke in his films. I figured out what was happening with Dot and Dorothy very early in the novel. I didn't know the final outcome, but I wasn't heavily invested in the book, nor in the characters.
