I loved this story so much. I can't wait to read the next book.

Content: clean- a few swear words, some violence

I think this book was just setting up for the next on the series. So I’ll reserve judgement for the next two.

I liked this books a lot. The best part are the characters, who are funny and adorable (especially when they are annoying each other).
This series gets even better on books two and three.

I chose this because I have really enjoyed some of [a:K.M. Shea|6893644|K.M. Shea|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1479143546p2/6893644.jpg]'s books (and A.M. Sohma is a pen name) but I didn't really enjoy this that much. This was okay but it's pretty heavy on the info dumps so felt slow going in places. The way that this a MMORPG made everything feel a step disconnected. I'm not really into MMORPGs (used to play about 5 year ago so I understand enough to get by), I don't have a problem with them or anything I just found some of the details a bit dull.

It was also annoying to follow a character so thoroughly screwed over by the character set up, it just got predictable and dull how badly things turn out for her again and again.

Honestly it's probably not the book for me but I will read the next one because now that the world has been introduced I imagine we'll get less info dumps and it might go a bit quicker and flow a bit smoother.

Absolutely LOVED this book!
The story is super fun to follow and the characters are hysterical. I one hundred percent recommend this book, even if you aren't into video games. Read it! Guaranteed you will love it.

This series is definitely meant for a younger audience, but also for anyone entirely unfamiliar with video games. If this is something that will irk you, don't pick this up. The explanations aren't done well, and it was odd to see which things "required" explanation while others did not. Not to mention, the premise of being trapped was very poorly supported. I had to drop this about 60 pages in, when the author felt the need to explain what PvP is. I skimmed ahead and nearly lost it when the story changed POV for the first time on page 90, mid-chapter. The author truly tried to make the interactions between characters fun, but this definitely seems more amusing for younger audiences. Definitely has some SAO and WoW vibes.

This is written by KM Shea's pseudonym. It's short and lighthearted, but I couldn't really get into it.

The Luckless was a very fun and humorous read as it follows Kit who is stuck in an immersive video game with an intentionally terrible joke character. She slowly gathers a group as she works through video game quests to complete her real quest of helping as many people as possible safely escape the video game server they are stuck on. The banter and growing camaraderie between players are priceless. This would be an excellent read for those who want something lighthearted and heartwarming, strong main characters and side characters, comical series of unfortunate events, so much humor and sarcasm, creative fantasy world-building, clean slow-burn romance (though not the main focus), and lots of adventure/action.

I grew up on .hack//sign and such. The return of litrpgs and isekai in anime and ebooks has been a bit funny for me to observe. I also haven't been that interested in the genre for about 10 years. However, my husband has, and we do so love reading books together.

The Luckless was a lot of fun and I'm about to jump into book 2. I really like Kit. She's a great combo of scared, confident, and snarky. Some of my main complaints are really just nitpicks with world building. Get past those and there is a fun story with great characters.

One last quick note. I feel like the threat of this story is better than say Sword Art Online or .hack//sign. It feels much more real and frightening in some ways.

Fun series with great characters. Being stuck in a game with a joke character Kit uses unconventional skills.
