This was a really sad opening book with a lot of action. It explains Alex's life in the mortal world and her relationship with her mom and former boyfriend Matt. I felt for her the whole time and I can't wait to start half-blood.
LOVED IT. One of the things I enjoy about Jennifer's writing is that her protagonist, Alex, has this no-nonsense attitude about her. She's cocky, snarky, and pretty much a badass. But she's real, too. She has such a deep bond with those whom she trusts that it's hard not to sympathize with her when things go awry. Jen's writing has such a way of drawing the reader into this world of mythical beings that it seems like we could have daimons in our own backyards and have no clue. I'm so excited about this whole series!

It captured my attention from the very beginning. I love stories about gods and any relations to them. This story about half bloods seemed really interesting and it made me interested to know more. Definitely made me what to read Half-Blood.
At one point it was a little too descriptive but I still liked it.
Gives you a great insight to the beginning of Half-Blood. I feel like it helps me better with understanding the fresh lose of her mother.

This novella is a good start to understanding why Alex‘s mom took her away from the covenant. I also really like seeing Alex interact with the human world because she does seem so out of place and she doesn’t care. Alex is one of my favorite main characters so any chance I get to see more of her I’ll take it. I definitely recommend picking up this book.
