Daimon is the prequel to Half Blood. In the description of it, it says that it is Covenant 0.5. The story starts out with Alexandria Andros remembering when she was examined by Hematoi ministers. They do this because Alex is a half-blood and they determine what she will be in life. Then Alex is pulled out of her memory by Matt Richardson, the boy that she is out with at the time. While they were on the beach, a few guys came over to them and started some trouble. Alex, having been trained, defended her and Matt from the guys only to have Matt get mad at her for it because he didn’t condone violence.

When Alex gets home, she is greeted by her mother who talks to her about sneaking out at night in Miami. She relates the events of the evening and gets that off her chest before going to bed. The next morning, she was supposed to be up “bright and early” cleaning up the balcony. After waking up at noon, she quickly got dressed and then proceeded to go out to the balcony to begin cleaning it. What she discovered when she was out there, was alarming. She saw the very thing she was trained at the Covenant to fight – a Daimon. Daimons feed on aether, the essence of the gods or the life force running through pure-bloods and less concentrated in half-bloods. What happens when she encounters the Daimon is where this story really starts.

This is the second book by Jennifer L. Arementrout that I have read and I really like it. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I liked this book because it gave you a good background into the Covenant series. Daimon leaves a lot of questions and I hope that they will be answered as the series progresses.

I Like:

•Alex. She has a good personality that is easily likeable. She doesn’t know the reasoning behind her mom and her leaving the Covenant but doesn’t question this decision outright. I also like the fact that she is a take charge kind of girl.

•Alex’s mom. You can tell that she has given up a lot for Alex. Being a pure blood, they believe that half bloods, such as Alex, are beneath them. Alex’s mom doesn’t show this belief. She genuinely cares about Alex.

I Didn’t Like:

•Matt. The guy that she is out with on the beach. He doesn’t like it when Alex defends her and him. He seems like a nice guy, but he makes Alex feel like a freak afterwards.

•Daimons. They are aether-loving, weird looking with bad teeth, evil people.

Cover

On the cover it shows a green tulip. This picture reminds me of pictures that I have seen before where they took x-rays of flowers. Only this particular flower has a green smoke-like substance rising out of it. The cover is very pretty, although it doesn’t tell me anything about the story.

I absolutely love Jennifer’s writing, so when I ordered this series online, I ordered them all at once. I wasn´t actually sure which one I should read first, Daimon or Half-Blood. Daimon is the prequel to Half-Blood, and after thinking for a while, I started reading Daimon. I was a bit afraid that there were some things that I wouldn’t understand, because a lot of prequels are released after the first book, but I didn’t have that problem. The story itself is only around 75 pages of the book, which isn’t a lot, but it was actually perfect. I really came in the mood to continue this series, so I think that it was perfect to start with reading the prequel, because it’ll get you to wonder what will happen. There’s a lot of information in such a small book, but it’s also perfect. After I read it, I just wanted to start Half-Blood right away. The perfect start to what I hope will be a really good series.

Daimon is a sort of big flashback of what happened to Alex and her mother when they ran away from the Covenant.
It was a short read full of action and some sad moments but I felt like it didn't have anything special, maybe because I'm not that fond of novellas. In addition I loved the parts where Alex was thinking about Aiden and trying to get him out of her head. Aiden <3
Overall, the novella was still enjoyable but it lacked of complexity.

Review of Daimon on K-Books

I really enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Usually I don't enjoy prequels all that much as I feel like it's just an introduction into the 'real' story beginning. This one is definitely the exception. I really enjoyed Daimon. I thought it was a great start of a amazing story and I found myself getting completely hooked.

Alex is a Half-Blood. She is a descendent of the Gods, but her father was a mortal so that leaves her with two options, become a slave for the superior Pure-Bloods or become a Sentinel, a protector of the Pures, and fiht against the evil Pures-gone-bad Daimons. But that was before her mother pulls her out of training and goes on the run hiding from everyone from her old world, the Gods, the Pures and the Halfs without any explanation why. Alex doesn't feel like she belongs in this mortal world and then the unthinkable happens, the Daimons find her and Alex finds herself alone and fighting to get back to the school and the world in which she belongs.

I think everyone planning to read this series should definitely read this before Half-Blood. I don't think my feelings while reading Half-Blood would have been quite the same if I hadn't read this before hand. It made the storyline that much more touching and at times heart-breaking.

This prequel was incredible as far as prequels go and it's definitely the best prequel for a series I have ever read. It wasn't a boring introduction to the characters and the world as some prequels are. Yes it introduced you to the lead character but it was action-packed and fast-paced and I couldn't put it down. I read it in one sitting and it left me reeling and I had to pick Half-Blood up straight away.
An incredible start to an action-packed emotional series. I can't wait to see how things escalate from here.

En helt otrolig prolog för inför första boken! Man får en del information om världen som Alex lever i, vad hon har för roll i den osv, men det är det som inte nämns som är det mest spännande tycker jag! Och sedan slutar den i en cliffhanger... AAAHHHH!! Jag blir GALEN på dem där sakerna!!! JAG VILL HA HALF-BLOOD NU!!!

adventurous emotional medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

It’s informative for the start of the series but the beginning of the next book just recaps  this so it’s not essential to read
