One for our Instagram children’s classics club. Not my absolute favourite of the Narnia chronicles but still a jolly good read -as usual. Oh how I’d love to meet Puddlegum!
I love the Witch's temptations.
"Where do you come from?"
"Above ground?"
"There is nothing above the ground."
"Yes there is!"
"Can you prove this?"
"Above ground there is the Sun... there is Aslan."
"What is this Aslan? There's no such thing as the sun..."

Lion Jesus gives you very specific instructions and you choose ignore all of them
Probably the most interesting theological argument in the series comes in the debate with the Witch, and the underground kingdom is one of the most delightfully weird locations. Absolute wild moment at the end where our heroes beat the shit out of a bunch of kids to end the scourge of progressive schooling, one of peaks of Lewis’s particularly mean-spirited approach to people he disagrees with

FINALLY A NARNIA BOOK WHICH I CAN GENUINELY GIVE A GOOD REVIEW! This book was actually interesting and is one I can envision myself reading to my future kid! People are saying how it’s dark and serious but I think you don’t always have to be light-hearted in a children’s book! So the giants are eating people and the dark land is dreary and depressing! It still conveys an appropriate moral and I found the relationships and personalities of the characters more likable, relatable and, realistic. Eustace has had the best character development and story of any Son of Adam (or eve for that matter) and Jill has been the best lead in my opinion. One reason why I liked The Magicians Nephew just fine is because of the two characters being easier to understand and having actual personalities which the Pevensie children just don’t have in my opinion—The Silver Chair just does the same! And the dread and tone of the story makes the stakes seemingly high enough for one of the leads to die which was never how the previous books were! That tension and bravery and friendship in a story is what I loved as a kid and still love now! I especially loved when the group held hands out of fear vs the Pevensie kids who we never see such anxiety or love from. It may be controversial but this is the best by far and may be the best of the entire chronicles if The Last Battle doesn't beat it!

I LOVE this adventure so muchhhh
There is a fantastical world that emits as much whimsy and nostalgia for me. This series makes me feel oddly at home among its pages. This isn’t a perfect book, but I love it all the same.
